Math has special vocabulary words that
help you explain and understand
problems and solutions.

 


right angle
an angle that equals 90 °

acute angle
an angle less than 90 °

obtuse angle
an angle greater than 90 °

 

 


Area
is the number of square units needed to cover a flat surface.


You find the area by counting the squares.

Area = 4 square units.
 

 


Milliliter (mL)

is used to measure the capacities of small containers

Liter (L)

is used to measure the capacities of larger containers

 


Elapsed time
 is the time that passes from the start to the end of an activity. 

 

 


Rounding
 is one way to estimate.

If the digit to the right of the place one is rounding to is     less than 5, round down    ;
     
if it is 5 or greater, round up    .

 

 

Perimeter
describes the distance
around the outside of an object or shape.

To find the perimeter of any shape, add the lengths of its sides.


Perimeter = 8 cm + 6 cm + 4 cm + 6 cm
Perimeter = 24 cm
