     Ruler
  The ruler is a standard mathematical tool. Always look carefully at the scale to determine if you are measuring in inches or centimeters.
Customary Metric

You can use a ruler to measure an object to the nearest inch, nearest half inch, and nearest quarter inch. You can use a metric ruler to measure an object to the nearest centimeter.

 

Capacity is the amount a container can hold.
Customary Metric
8 fl oz = 1 cup
2 cups = 1 pint
2 pints = 1 quart
2 quarts = 1/2 gallon
4 quarts = 1 gallon
 

 The milliliter (mL) is a metric unit used to measure the capacities of small containers.

The liter (L) is equal to 1,000 mL, so it is used to measure the capacities of larger containers.

 

 

 Scale 

You can measure a person's weight in pounds or kilograms to see how heavy they are.

Customary

 Metric
16 ounces (0z) = 1 pound (lb)
2000 pounds (lbs) = 1 ton (T)		 1000 grams = 1 kilogram (kg)

 

 

Calendar
You can measure a person's age in months and years to see how old they are.

 

 Temperature

Temperature can be measured in degrees Fahrenheit or in degrees Celsius.

Time is measured in different units.

Clock

You can use a clock to help you name the number of minutes in an hour. An hour is made up of 60 minutes.

1 minute (min) = 60 seconds

1 hour (hr) = 60 minutes

1 day (d) = 24 hours
1 week (wk) = 7 days
1 month (mo) = about 4 weeks
1 year (yr) = 12 months
1 year = 365 days
1 leap year = 366 days
1 decade = 10 years
1 century = 100 years
