Patterns +  Functions

 Mode is the number that occurs most often in a list of data.

Suppose these are the weights of 9 rabbits.

3, 4, 5, 6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8

Mode is the number that occurs most often  Mode = 6

Example 1:

Number of dogs per student

Find the mode

Mode = 3

Each x on the line plot stands for one student.

3 is the number that occurred the most often.

Mode = 3

Example 2:

Money Collected for Candy Sold

Find the mode

$10 $10 $12 $12 $21 $25 $25

$12 and $25 both occur 2 times

There would be 2 modes: $12 and $25

Remember: The mode is the number that occurs most often in the data. If no number occurs more than once, there is no mode.
