A figure that can be folded to make equal parts is a symmetrical figure.

Look at the star pattern below. One star has 5 pattern pieces. If your pattern has 3 stars, how many pieces will it have in all? You can use a table to organize your data.
Example 1:


1 Star

There are 5 pieces in a star. If your pattern has 3 stars, how many pieces will it have in all?

If you continued with this pattern until you have 4 stars, how many pieces will you have?  20

Example 2:


1 Sun

There are 9 pieces in a sun. If your pattern has 4 suns, how many pieces will it have in all?

Make a table to organize the data.

1 9
2 18
3 27
4 36

I f you continued with this pattern until you have 5 suns, how many pieces will you have?  45
