Perimeter
is the word used to describe
the distance around the outside of an object or shape.
To
find the perimeter of
any shape, add the lengths of its sides.
Example 1
Let's find the perimeter
of my backyard by adding together the lengths of all the sides. My
backyard is 100 feet in length and 50
feet in width.
Perimeter =
100 + 100 + 50 + 50 + =
300 feet
Example 2
Find
the perimeter of the barn. Think of yourself walking
around the outside of the barn adding distances as you go.
The length of the barn is 75 feet and the width of the barn is 90
feet.
Perimeter = 75
+ 90 + 75 + 90 = 330 feet
