You can predict, or draw conclusion when reading data.

The following data is displayed in a table. Make predictions from the table displayed below.

The students in the fourth grade voted on their favorite sports.  The table below shows the number of students that liked each sport.

Tennis 10
Baseball 12

The data was organized in a table  making it easier to read and interpret.

Which sport had the most votes from the students?
First look at the table and locate which sport had the highest number.  This will tell you which sport was the favorite.

Next look to the left and see what sport it is.

Answer: By looking at the table you can see that football received the most votes. The table shows that 25 students voted for football. 

Which sport had the least votes from the students?
First look at the table and locate which sport had the lowest number.  This will tell you which sport was the least favorite.

Next look to the left and see what sport it is.

Answer: By looking at the table you can see that only 10 students voted for tennis.  Tennis is the least favorite sport.

 

   Carthage Reading Club members kept track of the number of
         books they read each month.  The chart below shows their
results.

During what month did the members read the least number of books?

First look at the table and locate the lowest number.  This will tell you the least number of books that were read.

Next look to the left and see which month it is.

Answer: By looking at the table you can see that in September the members read the least number of books.  The table shows that 8 books were read in September.

Do you think more or less books will be read in the month of January?
First look at the table and see if there is a pattern from month to month.  By looking at the table you see that the numbers are increasing each month.  This means that the members are reading more and more books each month.

Answer: By looking at the table you can predict that in the month of January the club members will read more books than they did in December.
