What is a
tessellation? |
|
Basically, a tessellation is
a way to tile a floor (that goes on forever) with shapes so that
there is no overlapping
and no gaps.

Remember the last puzzle you
put together? Well, that was a tessellation! |

|
TESSELLATIONS:
- A pattern of congruent
shapes with no gaps or overlaps, is called a
tessellation.
 |
|
Example: Using a
square to make a tessellation

|
|
This
tessellation is made using squares.
 A pattern of
congruent shapes
like the one above, with no gaps or overlaps, is called a
tessellation. |
|
|
|
Example:
not a
tessellation

These octagons are
overlapping, so they
do not tessellate! |
|
Example:
using more than one polygon

This tessellation
is made by using more than one polygon. |
