Volume is the amount of space an object takes up.

The volume of a space figure is the number of
cubic units the figure contains.

You can count the cubes to find the volume of a space figure.

 1 cubic unit

 2 cubic units

You can use a formula to find the volume of an object.

Volume = length x width x height
V = l x w x h

Example One:

Find the volume of the pay phone.  The length = 6 in
The width = 4 in
The height = 10 in

Volume = length x width x height
Volume = 6 in x 4 in x 10 in
Volume = 240 cubic inches

Volume = 240 cubic inches

Find the cubic measure of each figure by counting the cubes.

Example Two:

By counting the cubes you can see that there are 15 cubes.

Volume= 15 cubic units
