It is important to connect and apply
mathematical information to
solve problems.

We see math in our daily activities .
Think about how useful math really can be.

We use math when we cook.
We can double a recipe by using simple math.

We can keep score in games by using math.

Now let's look at some examples.

You want to make a cake.
  The recipe calls for:
        1 mix
        1 cup water
        1 cup vegetable oil
        2 eggs

Now suppose you want to double the recipe.

You now need: 2 x 1 mix = 2 mixes
                          2 x 1 cup water = 2 cups water
                          2 x 1 cup oil = 2 cups oil
                          2 x 2 eggs = 4 eggs

The score of the baseball game is 3-0.
The team that is losing is up to bat.
There is one person on base when Pete goes up to bat.
He hits a homerun.

What is the score of the game now?

Since two runs were scored, the team now
has a total score of two.

The score of the game is now 3-2.
