Think about how useful math really can be.
 


Now try some practice problems.
 


 You want to make brownies. The recipe calls for:
              2 cups of cocoa
        1 cup water
                   1 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs

                     Now suppose you want to double the recipe.

  1. How many cups of cocoa do you need? 


 
2. How many cups of water do you need? 

 3. How many cups of vegetable oil do you need? 

 4. How many eggs do you need?   

 


 

                      The score of the basketball game is 33 - 30. 

                      The team that is losing has control of the basketball. 

                      Tim shoots the ball.  He scores a two-pointer. 

  5.  What is the score of the game now? 


 

 
 

    You have a list of things to buy before you go on vacation.  You need:
                                  2 towels
                                  1 bathing suit
                                  5 t-shirts
                                  3 pairs of shorts
                                  2 pairs of shoes

           You already have:
                                   1 towel
                                   1 bathing suit
                                  4 t-shirts
                                   1 pair of shorts
                                   2 pairs of shoes.

  6. How many towels do you need to buy? 

  7. How many bathing suits do you need to buy? 

  8. How many t-shirts do you need to buy? 

   9. How many pairs of shorts do you need to buy?

  10. How many pairs of shoes do you need to buy?
