Problems can be solved
in different ways.

Let's look at how each problem can be solved in 3 different ways.

 Molly went to the aquarium and
 saw 3 groups of fish.

 When she got back to school she
 wanted to write a report.

 She wondered how many fish she
 had seen. 

 She thought of 3 ways to solve
 her problem.
   


 1.  Count all the fish:
     
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11,
          12, 13, 14, 15 fish


 2.  Add the groups together:
       
5 + 5 + 5 = 15 fish

 3.  Multiply the number in
     each group by 3:
         
5 x 3 = 15 fish
 Jimmy mowed 4 lawns in his
 neighborhood. 

 He made $5.00 for each lawn he
 mowed.

 Jimmy wanted to know how much 
 money he had made.

 He thought of 3 different ways
 to solve his problem.
  $5         $5         $5          $5

 1.  Skip count by 5s:
         
5....10....15....20

 2.  Add the amounts together:
        
$5 + $5 + $5 + $5 = $20

 3.  Multiply $5 by 4:
        
$5 x 4 = $20

There is more than one way to solve a problem.
