We can see Math all around us:

When you are at the grocery store
When you are playing a game with friends
When you make cookies with Mom
When collecting cans with your soccer team

Mom goes to the store to buy bread, eggs,
   and butter.  She has
$5.00.  Will she have
   enough money?
                   loaf of bread      $1.99
                   dozen eggs         $ 1.09
                   lb of butter        $ 1.49

             estimate:  $2.00
                                   1.00
                              +   1.50
                                $4.50
Mom will have enough money since it
          will cost about
$4.50.

You play a game of baseball with some
  friends.  Your team scored
5 runs, and the
  other teams scored
3 runs.  Who won the
  game?

                           0      1      2     3     4     5     6     7     8

5 > 3   So, your team won the game.

You and Mom are making cookies for a party.
    You need
3 cups of sugar and 2 ½ cups of
flour. How many cups will this be?

                          3 + 2 ½ = cups

Your soccer team collected bottles and
cans to raise money for new uniforms.  You
    collected
312 on Friday, 241 on Saturday,
    and
133 on Sunday.  How many bottles and
   cans did you collect?

                           312
                           241
                        +  133

686

                    You collected 686 bottles
                         and cans in all.
