to solve a problem.

Choose a strategy and solve each problem.

  Patty plans to read 50 pages of her book on Monday and  
       Tuesday.  She read 29 pages on Monday.  How many more
        pages does she need to read on Tuesday?

  Susie's family went on vacation on July 8th and returned 6  
       days later.  What was the date?

  A volleyball team has 6 players and a soccer team has 11
       players.  How many more players are there on a soccer
       team?

  Pam counted the cars driving by her house.  In the morning
       she counted 37 cars and in the afternoon she counted 26
       cars.  How many cars did she see that day?

  The school store sells school supplies. A pencil costs $0.35.
       A pen costs a dime more than the pencil.  How much does a
       pen cost?
