    36 inches = 1 yard
    5,280 feet = 1 mile
    1,760 yards = 1 mile

Tools of Measurement

 Ruler

           The ruler is a standard mathematical tool. 
                           It is divided into twelve 1 inch units ( 12 inches).

Yardstick

  The yardstick is a standard mathematical tool. 
                    It is divided into 36 inches or 3 feet.

What unit would you use to measure these objects?

Measure the length of a pencil in inches.

            

Measure the length of a bicycle in feet.

                  

Measure the height of an apple in inches.

           

Measure the length of a house in yards.

       

Measure distance on a road in miles.

               

Measure the length of a leaf in inches.
