You can use patterns to decide what shapes come next in a design
Look at the design and find the repeated pattern.

_____ _____ _____

What are the next three shapes in the pattern?
The pattern is:
square, circle, triangle; square, circle, triangle.
So the next three shapes in the pattern are

.

You can use patterns to decide what numbers come next in a design with a series of numbers.
Look at star A. Point number 1 has a value of 4. Go to the next point and look for a number pattern in the star.

What is the difference between each number? Each number is 5 more than the one before it.
The first point is 4.
 The second is 9.
The third is 14 .
 The fourth is
19.
 The fifth is
24.

Use the same number pattern to find the next four numbers in star B. Start with the first point as 3 and add 5 each time to get the next number. They should be 8, 13, 18, 23.
