First, draw a number line representing the inches the cricket jumped.

Next, draw arrows to show the distance jumped each day.

Finally, note that the cricket will have jumped 12 inches on the 5th day.

To solve the problem, draw a picture.

First, draw the steppingstones that Mr. Burke used.

Next, count the number of groups of each pattern.

Finally, note that Mr. Burke used 5 groups of steppingstones.

To solve the problem, draw a picture.

First, draw the candle as it looks the first day.

Next, subtract 2 inches each day.

Finally, note that on the 3rd day the candle is 6 inches tall.
