Looking at pictures and diagrams can
help to solve problems in math.

Use the pictures to help solve each problem.


 1.  At the class picnic there was a tug-of-  war. 4 students were in the contest,
 with the same number on both teams.  
 How many students were on each team?


               

  
 2.  The gardener was planting flowers.  
 So far he has planted 2 yellow tulips and
 2 red tulips.  How many tulips has he
 planted so far?  

     

  3.  Aunt Mary is making her delicious 
 candies.  She is making 2 rows with 5
 pieces of candy in each row.  How many
 candies will she have on her tray?

        

 4.  There are 6 chickens in the yard.  2 
 of the chickens are yellow.  How many
 are not yellow? 


 5.  4 pink and blue birds were sitting in a
 tree.  If one of the birds is pink, how
 many were blue?
