that we don't need.

Decide what information you need
to solve the problem.

	Ben picks 7 apples. Lisa picks 6 apples. Jake picks 5 oranges. How many apples did Ben and Lisa pick? 7 apples + 6 apples = 13 apples
	Michelle lives 5 miles from the mall. Sara lives 8 miles from the school. Bethany lives 1 mile from the mall. How much closer to the mall does Bethany live than Michelle? Bethany lives 4 miles closer to the mall than Michelle. 5 miles - 1 mile = 4 miles
	It's 4:00 P.M. You eat dinner at 6:00 P.M. Dad works until 5:00 P.M. How long must you wait to eat dinner? 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. = 2 hours
