Place Value is the value given to the place a digit has in a Whole Number.

Numbers are made up of digits in the same way that words are made up of letters.

The number 576 (five hundred seventy-six) is made up of the digits 5, 7, and 6. Each digit has a special value which depends on its place in the number.

These words are called place value headings.
