Sometimes we can solve math problems when we act out or model with manipulatives any activities involving mathematical content from literature and/or story telling.
The following link will send you to a review of the children's book, One Monkey Too Many. From this story and related activities, children can learn to make observations and mathematical conclusions about the sizes and capacities of a variety of objects. Carry the idea of the story over into other objects, for example, measuring cups. (see studyzone practice activity) http://www.carolhurst.com/titles/onemonkey.html
Click the measuring cup to go to the practice activity.
