If there are 20 students in your classroom, could
you move your desks into groups of 4 without
having any students left over?

Character

Answer

Justification

Yes!

There will be no students left over because I always succeed!

Yes

I took 20 scared teddy bears and made them line up in 4 rows with 5 bears in each row.  So you would have 5 groups with none left to scare!

Yikes... Sinister Stump won the first battle!

If 26 people are stuck on a sinking ship, then
a rescue boat takes 15 of them to safety,
 how many are still sinking?

Character

Answer

Justification

11!

I used a number grid to count back 15 starting at 26 and I figured out that there are 11 people still sinking...but not for long!

11

I asked my two evil assistants and they told me that there are still 11 people sinking on that ship I pulled the plug on!

Yes... Captain Stupendous has tied it up!

Sinister Stump has threatened to turn all of the
leaves on our trees brown unless we pay him
$1.00 a day for a whole week!  We only have
$8.00 in our piggy bank!  Do we have enough?

Character

Answer

Justification

Yes!

I took 8 stupendous dollars out of my piggy bank and counted out 1 for each day of the week (7 in all).  I had one left over to buy a stupendous shake!

Yes

There are 7 days in a week and you have $8.  If I had a calendar I'd show you.

Yes... Captain Stupendous has won!
