Example:

Julie sold 16 boxes of cookies.
She sold 10 boxes to friends, 
then her family bought the rest.
How many boxes of cookies did Julie's family buy?

10 + c = 16

if "c" = 6
then 
10 + 6 = 16 

Jack picks up starfish
along the beach.
Each starfish has 5 points.
If Jack counts a total of 40 points,
how many starfish did he collect?

S x 5 = 40

if "S" = 8
then
8 x 5 = 40
