On April 19, 1775, an incident occurred on the village green in Lexington, MA that marked the beginning of the Revolutionary War.  British troops were marching to Lexington and Concord to take control of the stores of weapons hidden there by the colonial militia.  When the Redcoats reached the green at Lexington, the militia was waiting.
