During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was a common sight to see children working on city streets. Newspaper boys or "Newsies" were often boys as young as 5 years old who worked selling papers for a living.

This 1903, black and white Quick Time movie called "Delivering Newspapers", shows the competition among a crowd of young newsies running to meet a horse-drawn delivery cart.  In their haste to be the first boy to receive papers, a boy to the right of the wagon, is pushed to the ground.  As paper are being distributed, two boys begin to fight, drawing a crowd of onlookers.  This short movie is a nice addition to the lesson on Child Labor in Urban America.

Please note:  Movie takes a minute or two to load.
