Sprocket Works:  United States Timeline

By using an interactive timeline called the History of the United States, students can read about the Statue of Liberty learn about its symbolism.  They will also be able to hear the words of the poem on the statue read aloud.

Read the directions below before you begin.

When the United States Timeline appears, drag your mouse to the right until you reach the year 1886.

Click on the picture of The Statue of Liberty.

Click on the red button at the bottom of the page that says, “read me,” to read about American expansion and the loss of Native American homelands.  Then click on "hear me," to hear the poem read.
