When we learn about the economy* of New York State we must think about the way people make their living.  New Yorkers are employed, or work, at many different kinds of jobs.

By using charts, diagrams, tables, and graphs we can learn about the economy of New York State. Let’s look at the charts below  showing jobs held by the labor force, or workers, of New York.

*Economy: the way a country or other place uses or produces natural resources, goods, and services

*Civilian non-farm: means a worker who lives in New York year-round and does not come to NY for only part of the year to do farm work

working in factories and industries that make products such as automobiles, clothing, tools, toys, books, computers, and all of the things we use in our everyday life; working in the production of food products, such as canning factories, dairies, bakeries, and meat processing
