In December of 1903 history was made at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.  The first powered airplane flown by brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright went only 120 feet, and its flight lasted only 12 seconds.

This black and white Quick Time movie called "Return to Kitty Hawk" shows a glider taking off from a sand dune in Kitty Hawk, NC. It is a nice addition to the lesson on Transportation in the 20th Century. It may be watched silently with text transcript, or with audio transcript.
