Fort Oswego          A London artist’s view of Oswego just before its capture by the French in 1756.  The British originally built Fort Oswego in 1726.   It was a large frontier outpost, with a fort, boat building on the land at the mouth of the river, two rows of traders’ cabins, and tents for British soldiers.  Native Americans came to Oswego to trade furs for British rum, cloth and metal goods.
