INTERVIEW SHEET
Research
your local government and its structure.
Arrange for an interview (either
telephone or personal) with a Village, Town, County, or City Government
official to gather information. Use the following
questions to get you started, but remember, every area is
different Find out what is unique about your area!
- What is the population of your
town, county, village, etc.?
- EXECUTIVE BRANCH Does
your area government have an elected Head? Is he/she called a
Town Supervisor? Mayor? etc.
- LEGISLATIVE BRANCH Are
there village or town Board members? If so, how many are
there? Are they elected at-large or are they from districts?
- JUDICIAL BRANCH Is
there a City or Town Court? A City or Town Justice?
- What services does your area
provide? Ambulance services? Fire Department?
Police Department? Garbage Pick up?
- Is there a Planning
Board? How often does it meet?
- Are there are any peculiarities
to your area? waterfront, etc.? that need to be monitored?
- Does your city/town have a
charter?
- And most importantly, is
participation in government encouraged here? In other words,
can the average citizen be involved in making decisions? Are
our opinions important?
