Philipse's probate inventory—the listing of all goods, debits and credits connected to his estate—is a historically valuable document that sheds light on daily life for those living at the Upper Mills.

DEFINITIONS:

probate inventory:  an itemized list of items owned that is official, accurate, and true at the time of death

debits: list of items owed, need to pay back
